Motherhood Journey

Feeling Bad About Needing a Break? You’re Not Alone, Mama”

It’s Friday night, and finally, the work week is over. It feels like a small victory, but Monday is going to roll around faster than we can blink, and soon we’re back to the same routine—same ol’ same ol’, as they say. The end of the week feels like a time to unwind, relax, and calm our racing minds, but as mothers, we keep going.

Letting the word “break” slip from your lips almost feels like an act of rebellion. As mothers, we are often told that we don’t “get” breaks. So, asking for one can seem unnatural or selfish. And when we do finally get a break, we miss our kids like crazy. All we can think about is them. We feel guilty for laughing, smiling, dancing, or just having fun without them. It’s almost like it’s not okay to enjoy a moment for ourselves.

We have to learn how to juggle both titles—Mom and You (the individual with your own identity). Sometimes, it feels like those two roles are lightyears apart, doesn’t it? But, here’s the truth: breaks are needed. And it is okay to ask for one. As mothers, we tend to pour so much into our families, our kids, and our homes that we forget to refill our own cups. We can’t pour from an empty cup.

Taking time to recharge is essential, so go ahead—let yourself take a moment for yourself. You are allowed to be more than just “Mom”. It’s not only good for you, but it’s also good for your family when you are at your best. And hey, if I could grab a colossal bottle of wine right now to enjoy in peace, I’d do it… but my little one is still breastfeeding.

So, here’s my message to my mom tribe: You’re doing amazing, and it’s okay to take that break. Your well-being matters. Keep going, and don’t feel guilty for taking a moment to just be you. You deserve it.
